The Art of Jon Flaming

"Howdy, my name is Jon Flaming (pronounced Fleming), and I'm from Texas," writes one of the state's most compelling artists on an introductory piece about his art. He got the urge to illustrate, he says, "officially when I was in college–unofficially when I was 5 years old. There was a kid sitting next to me in Sunday school class who could draw the coolest fighter jet airplanes. I've been trying to draw cool fighter jet airplanes for the past 44 years."

Pioneers: Jimmy Dean

During the 1950s and '60s, Jimmy Dean's homespun charm, good looks and upbeat manner won new audiences for country music through the emerging medium of television–first on Town and Country Time, a local, syndicated show filled with music, comedy, hoedown fiddling and square dancing, then, more significantly, on The Jimmy Dean Show–first on CBS, then on ABC–providing national exposure for country artists like Roy Clark.
